AML implementation across non-financial businesses and professions

On 15 May 2025, Anti-Money Laundering Europe (AME) hosted the high-level event “Beyond Compliance - AML implementation across non-financial businesses and professions” at the European Parliament. The event brought together over 40 participants representing EU institutions, national authorities, civil society, academia and private sector actors to explore the practical implications of the recently adopted EU AML/CFT package, with a particular focus on the non-financial sector.
The discussion revolved around the importance of effective implementation, cross-sectoral engagement and tailored regulatory approaches. The event featured interventions from European Commission officials, financial intelligence units (FIUs), and sector representatives who examined how to translate the EU’s ambitious AML/CFT package into meaningful compliance, while safeguarding proportionality and preserving financial access for legitimate actors across Europe.
The event was hosted by Rasmus Andresen, Member of the European Parliament (the Greens/EFA, Germany) and shadow rapporteur for the Anti-Money Laundering Authority Regulation and moderated by Eva Maria Poptcheva, co-rapporteur for the Anti Money Laundering Authority and Vice-Chair of the European Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs between 2022 and 2024.
MEP Rasmus Andresen stressed the importance of tackling money laundering (ML) and the financing of terrorism (FT), which have a significant socio-economic impact, destabilizing financial markets and security at national and international levels. Against this background, MEP Andresen welcomed the adoption during the last legislative term of the AML Regulation and AML Directive as well as the establishment of the new AML Authority (AMLA), laying the foundation for a modern and effective fight against ML/FT.
